The Challenges for IPv6
As a new technique,IPv6 is also market-
driven,
–IPv6 application is sparse,no specific
application which can only be based on IPv6,
–According to our estimation,the IPv4 address
will still be enough by the end of 2008.
–Current 3G deployment and NGN equipment is
mainly based on IPv4.

Some Results
Current IPv6 deployment in ADSL scenario
are not mature,more work need to be done
to support more terminals over various
access networks.
Tunneling and double stack mechanism
have been widely supported in current IPv6
routers,but few BAS equipment support
IPv6,Automatic tunneling will be useful for
double stack user to visit IPv6 network.

Some Results
Some equipments have QoS functions
similar to IPv4,but whether IPv6 QoS
functions can meet future requirements is
still doubted.
IPv6 IPsec has been partly implemented in
Microsoft Windows and FreeBSD operating
system,but have not been widely supported
in Router equipments.

has emerged,such as Web,VoIP,Video

IPv6 solution in access network is very important,
which is the point that IPv6 will show its
advantages.
Multiple access solution will be designed,for
–there are Different access method,ADSL,LAN,
WLAN,3G,satellite,etc
– there are various user terminals,PC,mobile phone,
PDA,home devices,automobile,etc
The issues that should be addressed by each access
solution are address allocation,naming,AAA and
mobility.

Applications and services is the engine of
IPv4/IPv6 transition.
Smooth transition maybe be only a dream.
Telecom operators should find a way to
integrate various transition techniques to
create a transition plan for future transition
