Reading education refers to activities designed to
teach individuals how to apprehend the meaning
of written texts,When reading a passage such as
this one competent readers rapidly and smoothly
focus on successive groups of words and can
nearly immediately summarize what those words
mean,Closer analysis of the actions of competent
readers reveals that they rapidly convert written
symbols into more familiar spoken language from
which they apprehend the meaning of the text,The
two components of reading-- the former is often
called decoding and the latter is often called
comprehending--are both necessary for competent
reading,
