2,Shipping Parties (当事人 ):
----Consignor/Shipper (发货人),who send the
goods;
----Consignee (收货人),who receives goods at
destination;
----Carrier (承运人),who carries the goods;
----Forwarder(货运代理人),who represents the
carriers
3,Letters regarding shipment are usually written for the
following purposes:
(1)to confirm the charter party and booking note;
(2)to urge an early shipment;
(3)to amend shipping terms;
(4)to give shipping advice;
(5)to dispatch shipping documents;
4,Chartering of ships and booking shipping space
(1)Liners,ships that sail at regular times on set routes;
(2)Charter,ships that have no set lines or routes,but go
wherever they can find suitable cargoes.

Contract entered into between the ship-owner and the
shipper may take the form of either
a)a charter party,where a complete ship is hired or
b)a bill of lading,where the ship carries cargoes
belonging to different shippers.
5,Shipping Advice/Instruction::
After making shipment,the seller should promptly
advise the buyer of its effectuation,especially
the transaction is concluded on FOB and CFR
basis,It has been an international practice
stipulated in INCOTERMS 2000.
For example:
Dear Sirs,
We are pleased to inform you that your order No,20 for
8,000 bicycles has been dispatched by s.s.,Dongfeng”,
which sailed from Shanghai yesterday and is due to
arrive at Alexandria on or about 9th August.
We are enclosing the following shipping documents so
that you may have no trouble in taking the delivery:
----Negotiable clean on board ocean bill of lading;
----Invoice No.xx in triplicate;
----Packing list No.xx in duplicate;
----Insurance certificate No,xx
While we are confident that the goods will meet your
satisfaction,we nevertheless welcome any of your
comments and suggestions as to their quality,
appearance and market reception.
Chasing progress of a shipment;
Dear Sirs,
We refer to the L/C No.xx covering 500 dozen track suits,
We wish to remind you that we have had no news from
you about shipment of the goods.
As we mentioned in our last letter,we are in urgent need
of the goods and it is not possible for us to extend
further our L/C,which expires on 21 August,
On the circumstances,we may be compelled to seek an
alternative source of supply,Please understand how
serious and urgent it is for us to resolve this matter.
We look forward to receiving your shipping advice within
the next seven days.

Proposing partial shipment:
Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your letter of 5 April regarding your order
No.984 for 10 sets of MC646 milling machines.
In your letter,you ask for earlier shipment of the whole
order,I regret to say that we are unable to comply with
your request,
When the sale was agreed,we expressly stated that
shipment would be made in July,If you wish to have
earlier delivery,the best we can do is to make a partial
shipment of five machines in June and ship the
remaining five in July,We hope this arrangement will
meet with your approval.
Should you agree to the new arrangements,
please fax an amendment to the relevant letter
of credit allowing us to effect partial shipment.
We expect your prompt reply so that we can ask
the manufacturer to expedite delivery.

Advising Shipment:
Dear sirs,
Thank you for your letter of 1 August enquiring about the
shipment of your order under L/C No.xx.
Please accept my apology for the delay which has been
caused by the unavailability of shipping space from
Bombay to London.
The matter was,however,in hand and your consignment
was shipped yesterday on board s.s,Pandit which is
sailing directly to London,I enclose one set of
shipping documents comprising:
1.One non-negotiable copy of the B/L;
2.Commercial Invoice in duplicate;
3.One copy of the Certificate of Quantity;
4.One copy of the Insurance Policy;
I’m glad that we have been able to execute your
order as contracted,I trust the goods will reach
you in time for the winter selling season and
prove to be entirely satisfactory,I will
personally ensure that you receive our prompt
and careful attention at all time.
