Helen, I had never heard of this company- what can you tell us about it? HELEN: Well, you might not have heard of the company, but you’ve certainly heard of their clients. Dentsu represents some of the most famous brands in the world. MAN: They must be a big company-tell me more. HELEN: The company’s headquarters are in Tokyo, but they have subsidiaries and offices in 35countries around the world. They are a very big company, with turnover last year of US$1,987.8 million. MAN: That’s an enormous amount of money-they must have a huge number of employees! HELEN: In fact, they have quite a small workforce, only around 6,000. Advertising is a very expensive business, which partly explains the very high turnover! MAN: Who are their competitors? HELEN: They have competitors all over the world. There’s Abbott Mead Vickers, Corinthian Communications, Omnicorn Group-it’s quite a long list! But there are no companies as big or as powerful as Dentsu. MAN: That’s been very interesting.
