Rawdon, Blaine. Advanced Configuration Design. Mr. Rawdon joined the Boeing
Company in 1981 as an advanced composites structures designer. Mr. Rawdon is
currently the Program Manager for Boeing’s Pelican Ultra-Large Transport Aircraft study
project. Since 1984 he has been an aircraft configuration designer of advanced military
and commercial transport aircraft including the Blended Wing Body, Advanced Theater
Transport, Oblique All-Wing and the Pelican Ultra-Large Transport. Many of his aircraft
designs have appeared in study reports for the USAF and NASA and in several AIAA
papers. Mr. Rawdon has nine patents in the fields of aircraft design and cargo handling
systems. Mr. Rawdon is a Boeing Technical Fellow. Before his employment at Boeing,
Mr. Rawdon was a designer/builder/crew member for Dr. Paul MacCready’s “Gossamer
Albatross” human-powered aircraft and was the senior designer for the AeroVironment
“Solar Challenger” manned solar powered aircraft. Mr. Rawdon holds a BA degree in
Physics from Amherst College and a BS degree in Architecture from the University of
Southern California. Mr. Rawdon received a bronze medal from the royal Aeronautical
Society for his participation in the Gossamer Albatross project.
