二、本课程的教学目的和任务
"Advances in Microbiology" is an elective for Bioengineering students. This course provides
a comprehensive and critical review of the work done on different areas of microbiology to
students, including agriculture, industry, medical science, bioremediation etc. By studying this
course, students should understand something about technical research of modern microbiology
progress and apply on the present condition from some abroad English periodical.

Chapter 1 Microbiology: introduction and history
Students should master: The history of microbiology; Introduction of viruses, procaryotes
and eukaryotes; Methods and tools in microbiology;

Chapter 2 Microbial diversity
Students should master: Classification of microbiology; Microbial genetics; Origin and
evolution and biodiversity in microorganisms; Evolvement of microbial (mutation and
mutagenesis); Significance and status of microbial diversity;
Key point of this chapter: Origin and evolution and biodiversity in microorganisms;

Chapter 3 Applications of agricultural microbiology
Students should master: Microbes on aerial plant-surfaces; Nitrogen-fixation: trends and

biotechnology; Different microbes and their role as biofertilizer; Biotechnological application of
microbes for improved plant productivity;

六、考核方式与成绩评定标准
考核方式:闭卷考与写课程论文相结合
成绩评定标准:闭卷考占 70%,论文成绩占 30%。
